Bøgseth Says Good-bye.

Head coach for the national XC sprint team in Norway, Hallstein Bøgseth, has decided to call it quits after this season. – I’ve had two great and instructive years, says Bøgseth to XC-skiing.com.

From now on the 47 year-old's main focus will be his family:

– I've four girls who demand a lot of attention. For the past two years I’ve been travelling a lot. When I retire, I’ll be able to see my family more frequently, says Bøgseth to XC-skiing.com.

Norway’s XC sprinters have enjoyed many successes during Bøgseth’s ”reign”.

– There have been many great moments, in particular after we failed in the first World Cup competition this season. Most people lost their faith in us, and we received a lot of harsh criticism. It was very satisfying to see the skiers make amends in Salzburg and capture the first four places.

In total, Norway's XC sprinters have secured four World Cup victories and gold medals in the World Championships and the Olympics during Bøgseth's time as national coach.

– I'm very grateful for the work the Norwegian Ski Federation and the management did when the national sprint team was established two years ago. XC sprint competitions have a future, no doubt about that. It's imperative that the national team will continue to exist, says Hallstein Bøgseth who has not decided yet what to do when he resigns.

– I have a teaching post in Steinkjer, but other things are tempting as well. I cannot say more right now, says a laughing Bøgseth to XC-skiing.com.
