REVIEW OF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN OSLO (NOR) & KHANTY-MANSIYSK (RUS) March 2011
FISCHER NUMBER ONE FOR SKIS AND BOOTS
If you had to describe success with a colour, there would only be one: yellow. At the World Championships in Oslo (NOR) and in Khanty-Mansiysk (RUS) Fischer was more successful than ever before. The company even managed to take its record figures from the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games to new heights: an impressive 50 gold, 45 silver and 35 bronze medals went to Fischer. That's a remarkable 71% of the ski and 32% of the boot medals for athletes who place their trust in equipment from the Nordic number one. Or, to put it differently: Fischer was the most successful ski and boot brand by far at both World Championships.
Fischer's dominance in Oslo was clear to see right from day one. In the individual events of the cross country skiers, Nordic combined athletes and ski jumpers there was only one single gold medal that went to a different brand. Apart from that, there were only Fischer athletes who made it to the top of the podium. The keenest medal collectors came from Norway: Marit Bjørgen (NOR), who relies on Fischer's ski and boot package, was the "Queen of Oslo", picking up four golds and one silver medal. Petter Northug (NOR) was likewise successful, making it into the history books with three golds and two silver medals at the WCH on home ground.
Fischer athletes set the tone
In the Nordic combined it was likewise the Fischer athletes who set the tone, with 24 of the 30 medals awarded going to athletes with Fischer skis. Additionally over half of the medallists in the Nordic combined placed their trust in Fischer boots.
In ski jumping the Fischer eagles won an incredible 29 of the 33 medals awarded. The most successful eagle in the Fischer nest: Thomas Morgenstern (AUT). The winner of the prestigious Four Hills Tournament, who secured the overall World Cup title before the end of the season, rounded off his most successful season so far with three World Championship titles plus a silver medal on the Holmenkollen.
Dominance with the full Fischer package
The athletes who place their trust in the yellow equipment from Austria also dominated proceedings at the Biathlon World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk. All the medals in the women's individual events went to Fischer athletes. And 83% of them were won not only with Fischer skis but also with Fischer boots. In Siberia, Magdalena Neuner (GER) was likewise the most successful female athlete to go into the races with the full Fischer package, returning home with three golds and two silver medals to her name. In the men's events it was Tarjei Bø (NOR) who clinched three golds and two bronze medals to underscore his ambitions in the overall World Cup which will be awarded this weekend in Oslo.
Expectations surpassed
With such a remarkable medal count Fischer is understandably more than satisfied with the outcome of the World Championships. "Our clear goal is not only to provide very best equipment but also ensure that we develop it even further at every opportunity. We knew that we were well prepared and we had a good feeling about the World Championships thanks the results throughout the season. The actual results, however, surpassed our expectations," says Gerhard Urain, Nordic Race Director at Fischer. "The supremacy in the ski sector is incredible. We are particularly pleased with the growth in the boot sector which shows that we have been on the right track in recent years with our strategy of being a single source supplier."
