Similar national teams have existed in many other countries for years. A cross-country skiing nation like Norway, however, has never had a team like this - until now. Team INTERSPORT is a national team which is independent from the Norwegian Skiing Federation.

Team INTERSPORT contains many strong skiers such as Erling Jevne (picture), Jørgen Aukland, Rune Torseth, and Anders Hallingstad.

Steinar Mundal will both be in charge of the team as such and coach the skiers.
Team INTERSPORT operates with a budget of about NOK 500 000 for 2002/2003 season. In this budget, neither travel expences nor prize money for top-three finishes or the overall victory in the long distance world cup have been included.

- Our goal for the upcoming season is to secure the victory in the Vasaloppet and the overall victory in the world cup, says Steinar Mundal to XC-skiing.com. The Vasaloppet has not seen a Norwegian winner since 1971 when Ole Ellefsæter won the race.

- We have a good supporting organization, and I'm sure our skiers will be strong contenders throughout the whole season, says Mundal to XC-skiing.com.
