13.10.2002 Training Camp in Val Senales. XC-skiing.com presents the training programme of Norway's national teams in Val Senales, Italy. Av: Knut Seim Egil Kristiansen is in charge of the women's B-team and assistant coach for the A-team. This is what he has to say about the training programme in Val Senales. - Prior to this camp, the skiers have been through several weeks of very tough training, or to be more precise; there have been large amounts of quality training. The reason for this is that the skiers will put in large doses of volume training in Italy. The altitude calls for long workouts at a relatively slow pace, explains Kristiansen. The skiers will have one daily workout on snow, alternating every other day between freestyle and the classic style. The conditions and the each skier's priorites will also have be taken into consideration. What about more intensive training during a camp like this? - We plan to have two sessions where the skiers will be approaching their lactic-acid threshhold. We want to avoid, however, that they accumulate too much lactic acid in the muscles. In addition to this, there will be another two tough sessions for our skiers. These will be conducted at a somewhat lower altitude further down the valley, in order to allow the skiers to put in quality training without accumulating too much lactic acid. The more intensive training will consist of roller skiing and running. As for the afternoon sessions, they will for the most part involve running And strengt training? - This kind of training will not be given priority this time, but we plan to have two shorter sessions with strenght training in the evening. That said, strenght training will be a part of the roller skiing sessions when the skiers practice on diagonal poling and pushing in uphill slopes, says Kristiansen, who adds that the two women's teams will train together most of the time. He adds, however, that the skies who are going to participate in the World Cup opener in Düsseldorf are going to add a session with speed training up on the glacier. Accordning to the first reports from Val Senales, the both the skiing conditions and the weather are excellent. Skiers from Italy, Germany, and Switzerland are also present in Val Senales. |
