The fourth event in Visma Ski Classics and the second of Visma Alp Trophy, La Diagonela, takes place this Saturday in Switzerland.

The organizers are well-prepared for the undertaking, and the full 65 km course will be utilized.

The region has been blessed with plenty of snow since early November, and a truly amazing race is to be expected when pro skiers start their pursuit for success and glory under the Swiss sun.

"There are no major changes this year," Ramun Ratti, the Chief of Competition, says confidently.

"But naturally due to the great snow conditions, everyone's expectations are quite high. We strive to deliver the best possible competition for all skiers. I hope everybody will have a great experience when skiing here, and the most important thing is to cross the finish line with a smile on their face."

Bold words indeed, but Ramun can back his argument up with some solid facts about the special nature of the race and the location.

"La Diagonela offers a great race in unique surroundings with lots of light and sunshine in the middle of the Swiss alps.

There are over 220 km of groomed tracks in the area, and the finish of the race is in Zuoz, which has many interesting old buildings giving the event a wonderful atmosphere that will certainly stay in your mind for a long time after the race."

"For pro skiers, the course may first seem quite easy, but the high altitude, 1,800 meters and more a.s.l., presents a challenge along with good climbs before and after St. Moritz. Let's not forget that the race is 15 km longer than in previous years."

A great challenge it shall be for sure, and all "Fantasy Team" players are placing their bets based upon last weekend's successful Kaiser Maximilian Lauf.

In the men's race, Tord Asle Gjerdalen, Team Santander, seems to be a rocket no one can stop while the surprise skier from Team Serneke, Andreas Holmberg, announced himself as a serious candidate for winning any race. Ilya Chernousov, Bauer Ski Team, won La Diagonela last year and was third in Seefeld.

These three may seem to be the most likely podium skiers on the mens´side, but La Diagonela has always been a race with a lot of surprises.

In the women's race, Britta Johansson Norgren appears to be unbeatable. She took home all possible points from every category list event, and there seems to be no end to her dominance.

That being said, Sara Lindborg's, Team Serneke, strong performance last weekend makes her the second best candidate for success right after Britta.

An interesting speculation circulates around, and that is whether Kateriná Smutná, five consecutive wins last season, can re-gain her glory and find her way back to the podium.
