FIS POSTPONES BAN OF FLUORINATED SKI WAXES

Today, Friday 9 October, the International Ski Federation, FIS, announces that they are postponing the ban of fluorinated ski waxes for one year.

– Of course we all want a green sport, it is essential for the future of winter sports.

– Nonetheless, we think it is good that FIS has made this decision today and that the introduction of a fluoride ban should take place at a reasonable pace, and not before sufficient control methods are in place, says David Nilsson, Visma Ski Classics CEO.

– It is essential for our sport that there is well-proven test equipment ready so fair play in our competitions can be upheld. From Visma Ski Classics point of view, we would be glad to be part of the work for a ski world without fluorinated ski waxes in the coming years.

– We would with our mass participation expertise be ready to participate in the process of how we can implement this correctly, David Nilsson continues.

In November 2019, FIS decided to ban fluorinated ski waxes for all FIS disciplines from the 2020/2021 season.

Developing a test machine to detect fluoride on the skis has been ongoing since then, but time has run out and it has not been able to ensure that the test machine works satisfactorily in time for the upcoming season.
