Reistadløpet takes place in Norway coming Saturday - 7th of April. The 50-kilometer long course might be the hardest of all Visma Ski Classics races, and it is the one where even the best of the best likes to have some kick wax when climbing up the mountains.

“Our preparations are going very well and we have an experienced organizing committee,” Fred Arne Jacobsen, the chief of competition, says firmly. “We have plenty of snow, and the weather should be on our side as well. We want to show everyone that Reistadløpet delivers top-notch quality.

Visma Ski Classics introduced our race to international audiences last year, and we now have skiers from 20 countries and four continents. Our race has a demanding course causing headache for many elite skiers, and as a last minute addition we have Niklas Dyrhaug among the favorites. ”

In the men’s race, the winner from last year Petter Eliassen has retired leaving the field open to other contenders, and Dyrhaug may very well be the dark horse. Anders Aukland, Team Santander, was second in 2017 and third in Birkebeinerrennet three weeks ago, and he may be on the podium again.

He will be challenged by the Hertz yellow bib holder Tord Asle Gjerdalen who was the stronger double-poler in the race last season (5th).

Andreas Nygaard, Team Santander, has two consecutive victories under his belt, and he is shooting for the third one, but will this course be too much for him to tackle? We also got Morten Eide Pedersen, Team BN Bank, who is always strong when tough courses apply.

Ilya Chernousov, Bauer Ski Team, performed really well in the early season, but lately he has been a bit out of the game. But the three-week break might have done him some good. Naturally, there are some other potential skiers who may fancy the challenge this week, mainly from Team Koteng or Team Serneke and the strong Ermil Vokuev from Russian Marathon Team.

The women’s race will be extremely interesting as Justyna Kowalczyk, Team Trentino Robinson Trainer, is back in the game after winning Birkebeinerrennet.

Diagonal striding is certainly her forte, as it should be for Kateriná Smutná, Bauer Ski Team and Astrid Øyre Slind, Team Koteng, who both were really strong three weeks ago in Norway. Masako Ishida, Team Koteng, returns as well, and classic skiing suits her well.

Even Britta Johansson Norgren, Lager 157 Ski Team, might choose to put some grip on her skis?

It is also very interesting to see what the Vasaloppet winner Lina Korsgren, Åre Ski Club, can do on this challenging course.

Reistadløpet is also the third stage in Visma Nordic Trophy which combines the four Scandinavian events in the tour. And being the second last event of the season, the points coming Saturday is very important for the athletes to collect, it might even be the decisive ones of the season.
